Course description/educational objectives and outcomes
The Chemistry for Business field of study is aimed at future specialists ready to work in chemistry-related industries. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers the opportunity to pursue first-cycle studies in chemistry with a practical focus:
- Chemistry for Business, bachelor’s degree (first-cycle), 6 semesters, full-time studies (specialisations: medicinal chemistry, quality control in chemistry),
- Chemistry for Business, bachelor’s degree (first-cycle), 6 semesters, part-time studies (specialisation: quality control in chemistry).
Chemistry for Business is a modern, interdisciplinary field of study designed for people who are passionate about chemistry and its practical applications in the world around us, especially in areas such as medicinal chemistry, quality control, modern industrial technologies and molecular modelling.
The curriculum combines a solid foundation of chemical knowledge with economic and managerial competences, which makes the graduate an attractive candidate in the labour market, both in the private and public sectors.
The field of study is characterised by a high level of interdisciplinarity: the students acquire knowledge in the field of organic, analytical, and physical chemistry, molecular modelling of catalysts and pharmaceuticals and medicinal chemistry, while learning the basic principles of operation of enterprises, markets and management processes.
Practical classes constitute the dominant element of education and enable the students to acquire analytical and technological skills necessary to work in research and development, control and production laboratories and design centres. A significant part of the studies is devoted to chemical laboratory classes, which provides direct contact with modern equipment and familiaries the students with real-life problems faced by specialists in industry.
The students learn concurrently the basics of economics, management, marketing and startup operations, which will help them become project coordinators, quality specialists, chemical market analysts and advisors in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors.
The graduates of the field receive a professional bachelor’s degree. Upon completion of the first-cycle studies the graduates may continue their education in second-cycle studies, both in chemistry and related fields in Poland and abroad. Akademia Tarnowska (UAS) offers, among other fields, a Master’s degree in Chemical Technology (4 semesters), which upon completion leads to a Master of Science degree in Engineering, meaning that the graduates of the Chemistry for Business studies can additionally gain engineering qualifications. Those interested in professional development can also take advantage of a wide range of postgraduate studies, including those in the field of education which prepare them for work as teachers.

First cycle studies of a practical profile are offered both as a full-time and extramural studies. After completing the 1st year students choose one of the following specialisations ...
