Dr Anna Rój, UAS professor visited the University of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

As part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Teaching programme, I had the pleasure of representing our University at the University of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) from 29 June to 3 July 2026. The main purpose of the visit was to deliver a series of lectures for students of English Philology and to exchange teaching experience with colleagues from the partner institution.

The lecture programme focused on the interaction between the English- and Spanish-speaking worlds and the ways in which this cultural exchange is reflected in literature and popular culture. The lectures covered topics in linguistics, literary studies and film studies, highlighting various aspects of the dialogue between the English- and Spanish-speaking cultural traditions.

During the mobility, I delivered the following lectures:

  • The Grammar of Spanglish: Myth vs. Reality
  • Writing in Code: Spanglish in Chicano Literature (with particular reference to the works of Gloria Anzaldúa and Sandra Cisneros)
  • Tales, Ruins, and Romanticism: Washington Irving’s Literary Rediscovery of Moorish Heritage
  • The Picaresque Tradition: From the Anonymous Lazarillo de Tormes to Henry Fielding’s Tom Jones
  • Romancing the Civil War: Facts and Fiction in the Iconic North and South Miniseries

During my stay, I also met with representatives of the University of Mostar to discuss the organisation of the teaching process and opportunities for further developing cooperation within the Erasmus+ programme.

The experience gained during the mobility will undoubtedly contribute to my future teaching and research activities and further strengthen international cooperation between our two universities.
