Characteristics Of The Field Of Study

Course description/educational objectives and outcomes

The primary educational goal is to acquire competences in the area of ​​professional knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the social and professional role of a psychologist.

The graduates of psychology:

– acquire in-depth psychological knowledge, allowing for the understanding of human development in biological, psychological and social aspects,

– acquire theoretically based knowledge of contemporary psychological research and principles of analysis using statistical and psychometric methods,

– know the methods of measuring psychological properties, the principles of constructing and adapting psychological tests, and the stages of diagnostic procedures,

– have extensive knowledge in the field of life course psychology, psychology of emotions and motivation, cognitive processes, personality and individual differences, social psychology, and knowledge of the biological foundations of human mental development,

– have in-depth knowledge of mental health, psycho-prophylaxis, psychological diagnosis, psychopathology and mental disorders,

– have extensive knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to the profession of psychologist in Poland and the European Union (EuroPsy)

– can integrate his/her theoretical knowledge in the field of psychology and related disciplines,

– have the skills to conduct psychological diagnosis,

– can apply the acquired knowledge for practical activities in the context of psychological assistance, plan and conduct a diagnostic process using psychological diagnostic techniques,

– can explain psychological problems in order to analyse various aspects of human behaviour  to diagnose them and formulate psychological assistance programmes,

–  can apply theoretical knowledge in a specific field of psychology in connection with the chosen specialisation,

– are aware of the responsibility in fulfilling the social role of a psychologist and of compliance with professional ethics,

– identify with the values, goals and tasks implemented in psychological practice, and are characterised by prudence, maturity and commitment in designing, planning, initiating and implementing psychological activities,

– seek supervision and consultation with other psychologists and specialists in related fields. Understands the need for continuous personal and professional development.
